Everyday Products Without Everyday Waste™
Pela started in 2008 when our founder Jeremy Lang was vacationing with his family in Hawaii and he saw the damage plastic was doing to our oceans. Jeremy decided it was time to be part of the solution. Growing up in Saskatchewan, Canada, Jeremy was familiar with agriculture and was surrounded by beautiful farm fields where they grow flax. After the flax seeds are harvested, the remaining stalks from the plants are of little value. Where others saw waste, Jeremy saw opportunity. Pela got its start by converting flax stalks into a compostable biopolymer and producing products that are made from renewable materials and have a responsible end-of-life. Pela’s first hit product, the Pela Case, became the world’s first compostable phone case by using the materials that Pela invented.
Carrying the vision of a waste-free future forward, Pela has now developed a revolutionary new kitchen appliance called Lomi. Lomi turns food scraps into nutrient-rich dirt in as little as four hours. Lomi allows you to spend less time worrying about the mess, stink, and environmental impact of trash and more time doing things you actually enjoy. Lomi reduces the volume of your food scraps by up to 80%, also transforming it into nutrient-rich dirt at the push of a button. Your Lomi dirt is great for use on a garden, with plants, or you can place it in a compost collection bin. Finally, Lomi helps you reduce your carbon footprint. Yes, with every bit of food scraps you run through Lomi you are reducing methane emissions from waste that would otherwise go to landfill, as well as the additional vehicle emissions from hauling heavy, wet food scraps.
Finally, a smart solution to your kitchen trash. Make garbage optional with a Lomi!
